People on pre-pay power should expect more energy credits in January under new measures expected to be approved by Cabinet ministers today.

A further €10 million for the energy hardship fund, as part of a new Energy Poverty Action Plan.

People can apply for the fund through MABS, St Vincent De Paul, or ALONE with energy suppliers also providing advice and help.

People will also be directed to their local social welfare office for things like the additional needs payment.

Minister for Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan says, "we've been working with the likes of MABS, St Vincent de Paul to provide additional protection for those potentially most at risk."

"We're looking at, subject to cabinet agreeing, additional supports that we'll provide, which will back up the work that MABS and St Vincent de Paul are doing."
