2.9 million euro has been witheld since FAI review began

FAI officials have been invited before the Sports Committee to discuss ways to reinstate funding to football clubs as soon as possible.

It follows the referral of an independent review examining the structure and financing of the FAI to An Garda Siochana.

The association insists that all Government money it received was spent appropriately and as intended.

2.9 million euro in funding has been withheld from the organisation since the review began.

Chair of the Sports Committee, Fergus O'Dowd, says it's imperative the funding is reinstated without delay.

"Well its' very important that they come into our Dail Committee as soon as possible to try and deal with other issues that arise in the FAI including how we can ensure that funding for their use -  activities that have  that's being on hold and it's important to find a way in which that money can be given to the clubs
