Over 15,000 People In Republic Have Received Covid-19 Vaccine So Far

Over 15 thousand people across the country have been vaccinated against Covid 19 so far.

The HSE says its target is to administer 35 thousand doses by the end of this week.

Earlier, the Government insisted Ireland’s roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine is not slow.

Denmark has already administered more than 45,000 jabs, while the UK has given over a million.

It’s leading to increased concerns that we’re vaccinating at a much slower rate.

However, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly insists that’s not the case.

He said: "In Ireland, the approach we’re taking very clearly is that the only constraint on vaccinations will be the arrival of vaccines here in Ireland.

"That’s it. We’re moving as fast as it is possible to move.

“We’re not slow. Ireland has pre-ordered around 15 million or more doses of vaccine."

Minister Donnelly said 40,000 doses are arriving here a week, and 'we're vaccinating at that pace as well'.

He also said that the provisional delivery schedule for the Moderna vaccine - which was approved by the EU yesterday - was received late last night.
