An Irish-Israeli girl - thought to have been killed by Hamas on October 7th - is now believed to be alive and among those being held hostage in Gaza.

Eight year old Emily Hand was at a sleepover in a friend's house on the night Hamas fighters conducted a major attack on Israel.

The house in which Emily was staying was burned, and the eight year was reported dead.

However, her family have since been informed by the Israeli military that, following examination of the victims of the fire, Emily is now believed to have been taken hostage by Hamas.

Her sister, Natalie Hand, told Channel 12 News in Israel that it's now highly likely that Emily is in Gaza.

Over 200 people were abducted by the militant group during the October 7th attack.

Emily's dad, Irishman Thomas Hand, moved to Israel over 30 years ago.

Israel says it will not agree to any humanitarian ceasefire to allow food, water and medical supplied into civilians in Gaza until Hamas releases all of the hostages.

The Palestinian health ministry - which is run by Hamas - says at least 9,700 people have been killed in nearly a month of Israeli airstrikes.
