A commission of investigation says there is little basis for the theory that babies born at the Tuam mother & baby home were sold to America.

Its fifth interim report into mother and baby homes has examined the burial arrangements at six institutions across the country.

The Commission concludes that children who died at Tuam were not buried in a purpose built chamber.

It criticises Galway County Council and the Sisters of Bon Secours who they believe must have known something about the manner of burials when the home was in operation.

Children's Minister Katherine Zappone says they were unable to establish where 900 children who died at Bessborough Home in Cork were buried.

"The commission finds it very difficult to understand that no member of the congregation was able to say where the Bessborough  were buried".
