Marty Morrissey Returned Car After Use For Numerous Years

RTÉ sport presenter Marty Morrissey has apologised for an 'error in judgment' for the use of a Renault car for a number of years.

The sports reporter has described it as an "ad hoc" arrangement, adding that as he didn't seek a fee for events nationwide, Renault offered him the use of the car instead.

In a statement this afternoon, he stated he has never been appointed as a brand ambassador for Renault, and that he voluntarily returned it on June 23rd.

Mr. Morrissey also said he "never had a car allowance from RTE" and he apologised to viewers and listeners who may feel "let down" by his actions.

Yesterday at the Oireachtas Media Committee, the interim Deputy Director General Adrian Lynch was asked when a car loaned for five years without permission was given back - he said on Tuesday.
