The Tánaiste says people should name and shame employers who are docking workers' pay while they go to their covid-19 vaccine appointment.

It comes following reports that many people are not being paid while they leave the workplace to get vaccinated.

Tanaiste Leo Varadkar says companies should not be docking workers' pay or having them make up for lost hours.

He believes "a bit of naming and shaming might help."

The Minister for Business also says he would like to see people make them aware of employers that are behaving in this way.

Meanwhile, an employment law expert says employers are obliged to pay workers while they take a few hours off to get their covid-19 vaccine.

Employment Law Solicitor Richard Grogan says the HSA has issued guidelines that state that employees should be let off on paid time.

He also says the employer has to facilitate the appointment if it is scheduled during work hours.
