The most charitable county in Ireland is County Clare with over €6.50 given to causes a month.

AIB has released statistics on people's spending habits with the people in Longford less likely to give money away to causes, with just an average of €2.29 given away to charity.

The study looked at the usage on the bank's mobile app and categorised people into the county where they're from.

Dublin has topped the list with spends on eating out and getting takeaways, with the average person in the capital spending €115.27 a month, with Wicklow a close second - however people in Monaghan spend the least amount of money on meals in restaurants at €58.53.

Wicklow has the biggest outgoings on shops from supermarkets with €274.94 being spent by each user in the county on groceries.

Nationally the average spent in a supermarket is around €228 a month. Donegal fell well below the mark with just €186.20.

The study also looked into how men spend money compared with women. The starkest difference between the two figures was in clothing. Women spend an average of €119 on garments, while men spend just around half of that total at just under €60.

When it comes to spends online, county Laois had the lowest figure with just 19% going to purchases on the internet, while Louth was the highest at 23%.
