A man in his 40s has been killed and a Garda has been injured after a crash involving two cars in Monaghan last night.
It happened on Main Street in Castleblayney at around 11.30pm.
Shortly before the crash a Garda had attempted to stop a Silver Audi in the town, the man drove off and the Garda was dragged by the car for about 500 metres before it crashed into a Skoda.
The driver of the Skoda - who has been named as 47-year-old Stephen Marron - was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Garda - 31-year-old Michael Devlin, stationed at Monaghan Garda Station - was treated for injuries at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, and has since been discharged from hospital.
A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and he remains in custody at Carrickmacross Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
The Garda Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) has deployed investigators to the scene, and say an examination of the incident is underway.
GSOC said it received a referral under Section 102 the Garda Síochána Act 2005.
This provides for an independent investigation of any matter that appears to indicate that the conduct of a member of the Garda Síochána may have resulted in the death of, or serious harm to, a person.
