RTB Dealt With More Than 5,500 Rental Disputes Last Year

The RTB dealt with 5,657 dispute applications last year. The Residential Tenancies Board also got 591 tribunal or appeals applications in 2021.

Its annual report shows that most disputes (32%) between renters and landlords are related to renting arrears and people refusing to leave properties following their eviction.

Disputes over landlords retaining a deposit accounted for 19%, while 17% of tenants questioned whether their notice to quit was valid, and another 17% related to complaints over landlords not meeting their obligations.

The RTB also received 97,121 tenancy registration applications last year, bringing the total registered tenancies at the end of the year to 336,159.
