Sleeping Longer At The Weekend Could Save Your Life

Having a lie-in at the weekend could save your life.

Researchers found, that among those who were sleep deprived, getting an extra two hours sleep on a day off could cut the chances of a heart attack or stroke by 63%.

Scientists at China's Nanjing Medical University says the health benefits are especially impactful for those who get less than 6 hours sleep a night during the week.

The study, published in Journal of Sleep Research found "weekend catch-up sleep is associated with a low risk of angina, stroke and heart disease – especially in those with short sleep durations during the week", according to The Independent.

The data was taken from the sleep cycles of 3,400 people.

The research, which looked at the effects of 'snoozing' your alarm in the morning, also found those who snooze "on average sleep slightly shorter and feel more drowsy in the morning compared to those who never snooze".
