Thongs are being hung up outside the Spire in Dublin as part of the protest calling for an overhaul in the way rape trials are conducted.

Hundreds of people have taken to the streets of the capital this lunchtime to voice their concerns over the matter.

It follows a recent case in Cork where a defence barrister asked the jury to consider a 17 year old’s complainant’s underwear.

It's led to claims that "victim blaming" still plays a part in many rape trials.

Demonstrations are also being held in Cork and Limerick today.

Meanwhile a protest in Belfast will be held tomorrow, while another one is scheduled to take place in Waterford on Friday.

Badges will be handed out with thongs on them and the words ‘this is not consent’.
