Two people have been arrested in connection with the assault of Scarlett Faulkner in Tipperary.

The mother of one, in her 20s, suffered serious head injuries in the incident outside Birdhill village on Saturday evening.

Shortly before 5:30pm on Saturday, gardaí and emergency services responded to this assault on the R494.

Scarlett Faulkner was airlifted to hospital following the attack, and remains in a critical condition today.

This morning, a woman in her 40s and a teenage girl were arrested in connection with the incident and are being held in Garda stations in County Tipperary.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

They're particularly interested in speaking to anyone with information on the movement of two vehicles - a grey 162 Ford Transit van and a blue 161 Volkswagen Touran people carrier, between 4:30 and 5:30 on Saturday near Birdhill village and surrounding areas.

Video footage of the attack is circulating online, and gardaí are asking people not to share it, but to make it available to investigators.
