A 9 year old girl is in hospital with life-threatening injuries following a crash in County Offaly yesterday evening.

The collision between a car and a truck claimed the life of two of her family members.

A 30 year old man and a 5 year old boy died when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck.

It happened on the Tullamore-Mountmellick road at around 5 o clock.

The 9 year old girl was airlifted to Crumlin Children's Hospital with life threatening injuries.

While an 8 year old boy - who was a 4th passenger in the car - and the truck driver were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore.

The road was closed overnight but has since reopened.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact Tullamore Garda Station.
