Two motorcyclists were killed in separate crashes in Cork and Westmeath yesterday.

A 34-year-old man from Northern Ireland was involved in a crash during a road racing event at Walderstown in Westmeath yesterday morning.

He was airlifted to the Mater Hospital in Dublin, where he was later pronounced dead.

The event was called off following the crash.

In Co Cork, a man in his 40s died when his motorbike left the road and hit a ditch on the R619 in Dromahane.

It happened shortly after 5pm yesterday evening.

Passing motorists raised the alarm following the crash.

Emergency services responded, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, a 9-year-old boy is being treated for serious injuries in hospital after a crash in County Offaly yesterday.

He was knocked off his bike by a car at Pollagh at around 2pm yesterday and airlifted to Temple Street in Dublin.
