An investigation by a UN commission has found Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

The inquiry by three senior, independent rights investigators says Israel's military actions against people in Gaza constitutes genocide.

It's been investigating the Occupation of Palestine since October 2023, and has concluded that there's a clear 'intent to destroy the Palestinians' there.

The report concluded the killing of at least 65,000 people, as well as the horrific conditions for Palestinians in the enclave, meet four of five conditions under the Genocide Convention.

Chris Sidoti, who's a former Human Rights Commissioner for Australia, and one of the members of the inquiry into the Occupation of Palestine, said they've spent almost two years on the investigation.

"We cannot understand how traumatic the 7th of October was for the people of Israel, and the trauma and their suffering has been ruthlessly manipulated by Netanyahu and his cronies for the last two years.

"And it's time that it stopped and it's time that those who were responsible for this were held accountable".

Meanwhile, Taoiseach Micheál Martin has questioned how people in Israel can sleep at night, considering the actions of Israel's Government.

"Israel is behaving in a manner that's oblivious to anybody. But to me it's an appalling carnage that Israel is waging on the people of Gaza.

"I don't know how the members of the Israeli government can go to bed at night, with a clear conscience in terms of the murder and slaughter of innocent children, the destruction of Gaza and of a society".

It comes as Israel's defence minister says 'Gaza is burning' after fresh attacks on the city on Monday night.

Residents have reported heavy strikes, with hospital officials saying at least five Palestinians, including two children, have been killed.
