Vacant Social Housing Likely To Be Used For Ukrainian Refugees


Cabinet will be updated today on plans to house people fleeing the war in Ukraine.

More than 25,000 have arrived here to date - with around 17,000 in accommodation provided by the State.

An expanded voids programme that brings vacant social housing back into use is among the proposals being brought forward by the Housing Minister.

Longer term planning will include the conversion of vacant buildings, and activating some of the roughly 80,000 planning permissions nationwide which are in the system but haven't yet been started.

Darragh O'Brien will also tell colleagues a cross-sectoral and cross-department taskforce has been set up for longer term planning,
