Vicky Phelan Says She's "Deeply Honoured" To Accept Freedom Of Limerick


Vicky Phelan says she's "deeply honoured" to accept the Freedom of Limerick City this evening.

The Kilkenny native, who resides in the treaty city, will be recognised for her work in revealing the Cervical Check Scandal.

Her parents, son and brother will be in attendance later, in what's promised to be a special evening for Vicky's family.

"I never realised there were so few women who went before me."

"So I'm only the fifth woman in Limerick to have this award bestowed upon them; and the women that have gone before me have been fairly serious contenders."

She says she's hoping there'll be plenty more women added to the last after her.

Asked if the Freedom of Limerick offers any unique perks, Vicky Phelan said she's now allowed to "walk a herd of sheep up O'Connell Street or something like that."

There ceremony gets underway at 6.30pm today.
