An operation to recover victims from a volcanic eruption in New Zealand has been delayed, over fears conditions could get worse.

At least 6 people who were on White Island on Monday had died and more than 30 victims were taken to hospital.

Nine others have been listed as missing.

Police say it's 'too dangerous' to return at the moment, due to 'serious physical and chemical hazards'.

There are concerns of more seismic activity and the threat of further volcanic eruptions.

Meanwhile, New Zealand has ordered 1.2 million sq cm of skin from America to treat patients suffering burns of up to 95% after Monday's volcano eruption.

Surgeons have been working around the clock on 29 patients in burns units across the country.
