A man is being held by Gardaí after a woman died following an alleged assault in Waterford City.
Emergency services were called to an incident at a house in the Grange Heights estate at around 6:15 pm on Monday evening.
A woman in her 40s was found in the house with serious injuries.
She was taken to University Hospital Waterford where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
The State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.
A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene.
He's currently being detained at a Garda station in Waterford where he can be questioned for up to 24 hours.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to support the family of the woman who passed away.
Gardaí have asked anyone with any information to come forward.
Investigating officers are appealing to anyone who was in the Grange Heights area on Monday, 27th of April 2026 between 6pm and 6:30pm who may have camera footage, including CCTV or dashcam, is asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
