Leeds striker could miss playoff push

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford has been charged by the Football Association with "successful deception of a match official".

The prospective Republic of Ireland international could miss at least one of his side's Championship playoff games following his weekend theatrics. Bamford reacted as if he'd been struck in the face by Aston Villa's Anwar El Ghazi during the sides' controversial 1-1 draw at Elland Road on Sunday.

El Ghazi received a red card at the time from referee Stuart Atwell, but that red has since been rescinded.

Bamford has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge. If found guilty, he faces a two-game suspension.

Leeds' final game of the regular Championship season is on Sunday away to the already-relegated Ipswich Town. Marcelo Bielsa's side will face the sixth-placed side in the playoffs, currently Frank Lampard's Derby County.

Meanwhile, both clubs have been charged with failing to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the aftermath of Leeds' goal. They have until 6pm on Friday to respond to the charges.
