European vultures circle with Henderson's Liverpool future uncertain

Some of European football's biggest names have reportedly pricked their ears at news of uncertainty over Jordan Henderson's future at Liverpool.

The 31-year old's current Anfield deal runs until the summer of 2023, but The Athletic say that negotiations over an extension have reached an impasse.

Talks began over extending Henderson's contract at the end of the season, with Liverpool keen to retain some of their key players.

A contract extension for goalkeeper Alisson is due to be announced shortly, with irons in the fire for Fabinho, Virgil Van Dijk, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Henderson joined Liverpool from Sunderland a decade ago and, after a rocky start that almost saw him used as a makeweight in a Clint Dempsey deal, he flourished under Jurgen Klopp.

The Wearsider captained Liverpool to Champions League and Premier League titles, and his absence is often said to be the most keenly felt by his teammates.

Liverpool aren't afraid to let contracts run down, should talks prove fruitless.

Georginio Wijnaldum was allowed to leave for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer this summer.

Henderson's age and injury profile are unlikely to help negotiations. He was missing for 15 Premier League games last season, and will be 33 when his current deal expires.

Wijnaldum's new PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be an admirer of the England international. While Atletico Madrid could also be tempted by a cut-price deal for the influential midfielder.

A Henderson exit would likely prove unpopular with Liverpool fans, who had #FSGout trending on Twitter on Monday evening.

One Liverpool midfielder certain to leave this summer is Marko Grujic.

The Serbian international has played a grand total of 52 Premier League minutes following his signing from Red Star Belgrade in 2016.

Grujic has been on loan at Cardiff City, Hertha Berlin and Porto - and it's the latter that appears to be his permanent destination.

Despite interest from Serie A side Sassuolo, the 25-year old looks set to join the Portuguese giants this week, having already played 39 competitive games for them. A fee of £15million (€17.5m) had been touted in recent weeks.

Liverpool could also pocket another £15million for another fringe player. Wales winger Harry Wilson has attracted firm interest from Championship side, Fulham.
