A record number of covid-19 patients are now in ICU.

210 people are now in intensive care units with the virus, according to the covid-19 geohub.

Meanwhile, 1,919 covid-19 patients are in hospital this afternoon.

It's the second day in a row that the number of people in hospital with Covid-19 has fallen.

It's the first time it's happened since the end of November.

Meanwhile, the Public Expenditure Minister has suggested the current Level 5 restrictions will remain after February the 1st.

The Government is due to decide next week if the current lockdown should stay in place.

Minister Michael McGrath says the cabinet sub-committee on covid-19 will get an update from public health experts before the full Cabinet meets on Tuesday.

He says "I think it's fair to say that no one expects that there will be a widespread opening of the economy."
