The bodies of two homeless men have been discovered in Dublin city.

One man was found in Leinster Lane close to the Dail in the early hours of this morning.

The other man was found on Longford street, which lies just off Aungier street in the city centre.

Gardai say they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The deaths of the two homeless men are not being linked and Gardai are not treating them as suspicious.

The latest figures show more than 8,500 people are homeless in Ireland.

In the Dail, Sinn Fein Leader Mary Lou Mc Donald says the scandal of street homelessness and rough sleeping needs to be dealt with:

"We're hearing very distressing news of the death of a man who lived in a tent close to the Dail this morning Ceann Comhairle.

Can I just express my condolences to his family and friends. It's almost six years to the day since the death of Johnathan Corrie."
