COVID-19: 7,354 New Cases Reported In Ireland Today

There have been 7,354 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Ireland today.

3,294 cases were confirmed via PCR tests.

A further 4,060 positive antigen test results were reported via the HSE portal.

The five-day moving average of new cases is now 7,227.

As of this morning, there were 608 patients with COVID-19 in Irish hospitals - down from 636 yesterday.

There are 54 people with the virus being treated in ICU, an increase of one compared to yesterday.

Today's figures come as Cabinet signed off on recommendations to lift almost all remaining restrictions from next week.

From Monday, masks will not be mandatory in shops, schools and other indoor settings.

People will still be advised to wear face coverings on public transport, but they will no longer be mandatory.

Masks will still be required in healthcare settings such as hospitals and nursing homes.

The testing regime is also changing, but people are still being told to self-isolate if they have a confirmed COVID-19 case or symptoms of the virus.
