Donald Trump Fires National Security Adviser John Bolton

Donald Trump says he's sacked his national security adviser John Bolton.

The US President has tweeted that they 'disagreed strongly' on many issues, and Mr Bolton had been informed "his services are no longer needed at the White House".

He added that he'd name a replacement next week.

However, the account of the firing was disputed by Bolton himself in a short tweet:

Mr Bolton is a controversial figure in Washington - known for his hawkish positions and strong support for regime change in Iran.

He'd previously served as a US ambassador to the UN under George W Bush.

He was the third person to hold the national security adviser role under Trump, following Michael Flynn and HR McMaster.
