Government Accused Of "Lacking Respect" Towards Live Music Industry

The government's being accused of lacking respect towards those working in the live events and music industry.

Representatives from the sector will meet with Arts Minister, Catherine Martin, later to discuss a possible return.

Stakeholders say today's forum is the first between them and government since the pandemic began 18 months ago.

Event promoter, Justin Green, who's attending today's meeting, says it's time government shows some faith in the live events and music industry.

"The meeting is clearly a tick-box exercise, a publicity stunt in response to mounting public and media pressure. We urgently call on government for proper and meaningful engagement as they have done with every other sector", he says.

Lead singer of The Academic, Craig Fitzgerald, says they can play music festivals in the UK, but they want to perform here again.

"It's just insane to think we'll be doing that before we have a clue if people can put on a gig in a pub", he says.
