Household Disposable Income Falls After Inflation Impacts

Household disposable income declined last year when inflation is taken into account.

The CSO's Survey on Income and Living Conditions shows that the median household disposable income last year was €55,149.

While the figure is up 5.8% on the previous year - when adjusted for inflation - real household figure is just over €50,000 and represents a drop of almost 2% on the previous year.

10.6% of people were at risk of poverty in 2023, compared to 12.5% in 2022.

However, 13% of the population would've been at risk of poverty without cost of living measures.

3.6% of people were found to be living in consistent poverty in 2023 , and without the cost of living measures that would have been 4.4%.
