The Taoiseach is defending where the covid-19 mass vaccination centres have been located, following criticism from some TDs.

37 are to be rolled out nationwide with at least one in every county.

There five located in Cork, four in Dublin, as well as two each in Wicklow, Westmeath, Tipperary and Kerry.

Some TDs are raising concerns that people will have to travel some distance to their vaccination centre.

There have been also been complaints that there’s no centre in Drogheda in Co Louth but two in Wicklow which is the Health Minister’s constituency.

The Taoiseach says the location of the centres was chosen by the vaccination task force and the HSE, but says "if additionality is required, that can also be provided."

Micheál Martin said the centres are needed to ramp up the rollout of the vaccine and they provide "a significant light at the end of the tunnel" for us in the fight against covid-19.

Meanwhile, the management of one of the locations set to be a COVID mass vaccination centre has said nothing has been confirmed with them by the HSE.

The Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow was named yesterday as one of 37 centres nationwide.

Manager of the hotel Michael Walsh said while the HSE has visited the site they hadn't agreed to anything prior to the publication of yesterday's list.
