Bundesliga suspended until April 30, Bayern and Dortmund agree pay cuts

German league officials have extended the suspension of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 until April 30 at the earliest.

Action in Germany's top two divisions had initially been postponed until April 2, but in line with most of the rest of Europe's top leagues that date has been pushed back amid the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

A meeting - lasting several hours - was held by video conference on Tuesday involving the DFL's executive committee.

The meeting also resolved to have the season ended by June 30, as long as it's "legally permissible" and safe to do so.

With that in mind, they are still considering playing games behind closed doors with a bare minimum of media and club staff present.

The DFL say they have a "responsibility for an industry with 56,000 direct and indirect employees."

The two biggest Bundesliga clubs have reportedly agreed to an honourable gesture during the crisis.

Bild report that both Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich players have agreed to a cut in their salaries.

The German paper claims that both clubs have asked their players to waive 20% of their salaries to factor against the losses incurred during the football shutdown.

Kicker say the Dortmund move will safeguard the jobs of 850 employees at the club.
