Joey Carbery's season is over confirm Munster

Munster have confirmed that Joey Carbery will not play again this season.

The Ireland out-half underwent elective surgery last week on the ankle he originally injured in August's World Cup warm-up win over Italy.

Carbery was likely to be out until April anyway as the result of a separated wrist tendon injury that he sustained in December.

Munster say that Carbery is expected to return to training for the 2020-21 pre-season.

The province are on a scheduled down week given there was supposed to be Six Nations action involving Ireland this weekend.

No new injuries arose from their bonus-point win over the Scarlets on Saturday - their third bonus-point victory in a row - that leaves them just two points adrift of Conference B leaders Edinburgh in the Guinness PRO14.
