The Cabinet has agreed to a deal that will allow GP's and Pharmacists administer the covid-19 vaccine.

From next month they will be able to give people the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The AstraZeneca vaccine can be stored in a normal fridge and so will be easier to roll-out than the Pfizer or Moderna ones.

GP's and Pharmacists will be able to administer the vaccine in GP surgeries, mass vaccination centres and other venues.

The deal is worth around €91 million.

Sinn Féin's Health Spokesman David Cullinane says it's an important step, and believes it will help to speed up the rollout of the vaccines.

He said, "I hope they will be in a position very quickly to play their part in rolling this out, and then obviously we'll move on to mass vaccination centres in the general population."
